Sterling Students win Earth Day Essay Contest!
Claire Countryman-Logstrom (7th Grade)

Anastasia Ivanova (7th Grade)

Cascadia Conservation District is pleased to announce our 6th annual Earth Day Essay Contest! The essay contest is open to students who live in or attend school in Chelan county and who are in grades 6-8.

This year, the essay question is:
"Describe an experience you have had in nature, and how you connected with that experience personally. How does that make you want to be more environmentally responsible?"

The winning essay will be featured in Cascadia's Conservation Quarterly newletter, which goes out with the Wenatchee World, and posted on our website and other social media outlets.

The writers of the top three essays will receive hand painted field journals created by local artist Heather A. Wallis Murphy and a student membership to the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center!
Highly Capable
On Tuesday, May 2nd, the Highly Capable Sterling Students in the 7th grade travelled to Olympia to take a Civic Education Tour of our state capitol. They learned about the history of the capitol building itself and how business is conducted during a special session. Students were able to walk through the Secretary of State’s and the Governor's office. The students also were able to sit in both the House of Representative and Senate Chambers while our representatives were working on bills. One of the highlights of the trip was witnessing the House of Representatives vote on three bills! In the Temple of Justice, the tour guide led them in a mock trial about a real case from the 90s. To top it off, the students were visited by Representative Mike Steele and a staff member from Senator Hawkin’s office.

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
